Description:

Within ITMS Q&S, two Databases are developing.
First, the Greta tool developed by the UBA represents a comprehensive approach for collecting and gridding emissions on the national level (see below). Greta could be a centralized data pool to share GHG emissions across ITMS Modules and inform National Reporting.
Second, within the Module Q&S, a temporary database on the Thünen Cloud was established to collect datasets internally transferred within Module Q&S, mainly between WP2 and WP4. Metadata to the datasets is consolidated on the following Confluence page: Internal Content. In the long run, this temporary database will be replaced by a repository at the DKRZ after the proposal is granted.

Greta

The Greta tool for ArcMap (ESRI) features spatial distribution of air pollutants, heavy metals, POPs and GHGs. The emission-data is based on different submitted report versions (submission) in the context of the national emission report according to the Paris Climate Conference Agreement. The data is provided in the ZSE (Zentrales System Emissionen, central emission system) by the UBA. The data sets contain accumulated, sector specific emission data back to the year 1990. The core function of the Greta tool is to redistribute the summed sectoral emission data to the approximated origen-locations. Therefore, distribution parameters are used, available for different years (yearly, every 5 years). The type and extent of the used grid can be chosen freely, up to a spatial resolution of 1x1 km². Gridded emissions can be exported in nomenclatures (NFR, GNFR, SNAP). Vertical distribution of emissions is also possible for power plants, industrial chimneys, and aviation.

Temporary Database and Metadata List

The temporary database for Module Q&S was located at the Thünen Cloud.

Updates on Milestone MS-QS_I.1

After the DKRZ Proposal regarding Computing Hours and Storage Capacity was granted, datasets were consolidated at the DKRZ Repository.
Datasets are now available by the ITMS-Q&S Activity Data Collection (Internal Content) and the ITMS-Q&S a-priori emission collection (https://itmsgermany.atlassian.net/l/cp/cjc1m8f4).
