D-B_I.7.1. land surface satellite observations

Data description

This dataset contains gridded land surface observations from the MODIS sensors for the period 2001-2021 at daily and 0.05deg resolution for the European domain (33.82- 70.18N, -21.3- 59.32E, according to agreements here) in zarr format. Variables include the enhanced vegetation index EVI, the near infrared reflectance of vegetation NIRv, the normalized difference water index NDWI as well as daytime and nighttime land surface temperature. The data are based on the official MCD43C4, MOD11C1 and MYD11C1 v006 products, and have been quality checked and gapfilled (Walther* & Besnard* et al. 2022, Biogeosciences, 'FluxnetEO') with the ultimate goal of driving statistical simulations of biogenic terrestrial CO2 fluxes within ITMS Q&S I, which in turn will serve as priors for the atmospheric CO2 inversions in ITMS M. Further possible use cases are being currently discussed with Hannes Imhoff and KIT colleagues.

The data are provided as yearly zarr files under ftp://ftp.bgc-jena.mpg.de/pub/outgoing/swalth/ITMS/ITMS_B/deliverable_I71_2023_12 (make sure to write out the path as some folders are hidden).
