Project Deliverable: Further model development and application of model at site scale
The model LandscapeDNDC has been parametrised and validated against long-term site scale data across Germany and in neighbouring countries with similar climates and soils. Most measurement sites have provided data for at least 3 consecutive years, with some for as long as 20 years. Measurements include key variables for parametrising green-house gas emissions from arable, grassland and forest ecosystems, including time series of crop and grass yields, biomass accumulation, soil water content, plant nitrogen content, nitrous oxide (N2O) emissions, soil carbon content and methane (CH4) emission/uptake.
A number of sites have been incorporated into an automatic system that evaluates the effect of changes in model structure and parameters on the ability of the model to reproduce the key variables. This will help to ensure that the model parametrisation remains relevant, despite ongoing model development. Additionally, one extensively measured catchment with a mixed land use of arable, grassland and forest has been included in the ongoing evaluation.
The sites in the automatic evaluation include:
Arable: Gebesee (Thüringen), Paulinenaue (Brandenburg), Dedelow (Brandenburg), Grignon (France), Aurade (France), Lamasquerre (France), Askov (Denmark) and Rothamsted (UK).
Grassland: Graswang (Bayern), Fendt (Bayern) and Oensingen (Switzerland).
Forest: Högelwald (Bayern), Ettenheim (Baden-Württemberg) and Zöbelboden (Austria).
Catchment: Vollnkirchener Bach (Hessen).
